Project Type: Wordpress Development
Launched: August 2012 Details
Levantine Films is the first product of Spruce’s collaborative partnership with Permanent ADG, an art & design group out of Minneapolis. Their mission is simple, and resonates with Spruce’s core values:
Permanent is a full service agency that merges the capacity of art with the functionality of design. We connect our clients with hand-plucked teams perfectly tailor-fit to specific projects, keeping the quality level high, the momentum fluid, and the overhead low. Through bold, thoughtful, and ambitious initiatives we produce fresh concepts that sit at the intersection of both art and design, creating borderless, unique solutions for a wide-range of clients.
Permanent came to us with Levantine Films nearing its final design stages, and passed the baton over to our team for WordPress development. The design was inspired by the paintings of Piet Mondrian, known for their geometric grids and swatches of solid color. Our challenge was in implementing these grids in such a way that the intersecting pattern of lines would continue in all directions for users with particularly large screens, but allow for laptop and tablet browsing without horizontal scroll bars. We settled on a layout with a fixed center column and flexible left and right columns, using CSS styles to create intersecting lines of varying thickness. The result is a site with a rather unique layout, boasting simplicity of concept and a clean but intelligent design.
